MY IDENTITY IN CHRIST PART TWO
In our last lesson, in "My Identity In Christ Part One, we discussed what it meant to be born again in our
spirits, and how this brought around a heart change for us. We used 2 Corinthians 5:17, which says,
Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature
altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new
has come! We began to see that when we are born again, a transformation has taken place in our
spirits, and the only way to know what has really transpired in our spirits is through the Word of God. We
can not perceive it through external things, and we can't perceive it through our emotions, because that
would be perceiving in the soulish realm. But in the spirit part of us, there is a transformation....if we be
" In Christ Jesus".
A few scriptures which show the things that took place when a person received Jesus into their life.
Ephesians 4:24 And put on the new nature (the regenerate self) created in God's image, [Godlike] in true
righteousness and holiness. When a person is born again, their spirit becomes imbued with God's Spirit
i.e; righteousness and holiness.
The Bible actually speaks of two types of righteousness. There is a righteousness produced through
your own actions. You must understand that kind of righteousness. It is not acceptable to God, because
it is considered unclean. Isaiah 57:11-15 Of whom have you been so afraid and in dread that you lied and
were treacherous and did not [seriously] remember Me, did not even give Me a thought? Have I not been
silent, even for a long time, and so you do not fear Me? 12 I will expose your [pretended] righteousness
and your doings, but they will not help you. 13 When you cry out, let your [rabble] collection of idols
deliver you! But the wind shall take them all, a breath shall carry them away. But he who takes refuge in
Me shall possess the land [Judea] and shall inherit My holy mountain [Zion, also the heavenly inheritance
and the spiritual Zion]. 14 And the word of One shall go forth, Cast up, cast up, prepare the way! Take up
the stumbling block out of the way [of the spiritual return] of My people. 15 For thus says the high and
lofty One — He Who inhabits eternity, Whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, but with him
also who is of a thoroughly penitent and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the
heart of the thoroughly penitent [bruised with sorrow for sin]. [
Philippians 3:7-9 But whatever former things I had that might have been gains to me, I have come to
consider as [one combined] loss for Christ's sake. 8 Yes, furthermore, I count everything as loss
compared to the possession of the priceless privilege (the overwhelming preciousness, the surpassing
worth, and supreme advantage) of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord and of progressively becoming more
deeply and intimately acquainted with Him [of perceiving and recognizing and understanding Him more
fully and clearly]. For His sake I have lost everything and consider it all to be mere rubbish (refuse, dregs),
in order that I may win (gain) Christ (the Anointed One), 9 And that I may [actually] be found and known as
in Him, not having any [self-achieved] righteousness that can be called my own, based on my obedience
to the Law's demands (ritualistic uprightness and supposed right standing with God thus acquired), but
possessing that [genuine righteousness] which comes through faith in Christ (the Anointed One), the
[truly] right standing with God, which comes from God by [saving] faith.
As you can see through these scriptures and previous studies in "Righteousness By Faith (Parts one and
two), God does not accept you based on your external righteousness. He literally gave you His
righteousness through His Holy Spirit being impregnated into your spirit when you came to Salvation.
In 2 Corinthians 5:21, the word declares that God the Father made the Son to become sin for us that we
might be made the righteousness of God In Him. So there is a righteousness which goes far beyond our
external righteousness and is based on what God did for us. We literally received the righteousness of
God by faith IN Christ. We were created in righteousness and true holiness. A simple definition is that we
are already in right standing with God. If we are IN CHRIST by growing and practicing what we are
learning in the Word of God, without duplicity or double mindedness.
God is pleased with us based on Christ IN us, not on anything else. Our spirit is where the change takes
place. We are new creatures: Ephesians 2:10 For we are God's [own] handiwork (His workmanship),
recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works. We were sealed with Holy
Spirit of promise. Ephesians 1:13 In Him you also who have heard the Word of Truth, the glad tidings
(Gospel) of your salvation, and have believed in and adhered to and relied on Him, were stamped with the
seal of the long-promised Holy Spirit.
You have a new identity. For you to have relationship with God, you have to fellowship with and worship
Him, based on who you are in your spirit (the temple where God dwells), not in your flesh.
This is really the great transformation in the Christian life. A Christian must have a change of identity.
Your allegiance is not unto yourself anymore, but now and forever unto your Lord and Master, Jesus.
You must now relate to God based not on what you do in the physical realm, not what you think in your
mind, but by who you are in the spirit based on what Christ has done for you. This is a completed work.
This does not change or stop and start. It is a finished work by Christ. You were created in
righteousness and true holiness. This is the spirit part of you and your new identity IN Christ, and where
you now have fellowship and worship Him in spirit and truth acquiring His Mind, His Will and His Heart.
